Industrial activity in June recorded an increase of 19.1 per cent compared to the same month last year and 10.5 per cent compared to last May. Compared with June 2019, 13 of the 16 sectors in the industrial sector grew, with the highest increases in Motor vehicles, 39.1%; Machinery and equipment, 35.3%; and Chemicals, 20.6%. Meanwhile, Petroleum refining, Furniture and mattresses and Other transport equipment remained below 2019 values. As for expectations, 31.8% of the businessmen consulted by the Indec reported that domestic demand will increase up to and including September, 29.5% estimated that exports will increase and 32.4% that imports will increase. Construction, on the other hand, showed a year-on-year improvement of 28.6% in June and 6.8% compared to last May. The Minister of Productive Development, Matías Kulfas, stressed that the data showed "a very important recovery" and that the industry was at its highest level since May 2018. He also highlighted that during the government of former president Mauricio Macri, the industry "destroyed jobs non-stop". In addition, the Minister of Economy, Martín Guzmán, stated that the country was experiencing "an economic recovery", and that it was necessary to "bet" on industry, because without it "there was no future".
