Argentina's Government approved the complementary norms that govern the Promotion of the Knowledge Economy. The activities that are included in the regime are: digital computer software and services; audiovisual production and post-production; biotechnology, bioeconomics, biology, biochemistry, microbiology, bioinformatics, molecular biology, neurotechnology, genetic engineering and geoengineering.
Tax benefits also include geological and prospecting services and those related to electronics and communications; nanotechnology and nanoscience; satellite and aerospace industry, space technologies; and engineering for the nuclear industry.
The Minister of Production, Matías Kulfas, declared that "in a decade these companies will generate up to 500,000 jobs, and they will export close to 10 billion dollars per year." It was established that the “unfavorable areas”, which will have an additional benefit of 10% on employer contributions, are the provinces of San Juan, Tucumán, Catamarca, La Rioja, Entre Ríos, Jujuy, Corrientes, Salta, Misiones, Chaco, Santiago del Estero and Formosa.
