Following a meeting with Chinese agriculture and fishing sector businessmen at the Embassy of Argentina in China, Argentina's Agriculture Minister Ricardo Buryaile told reporters he will try to reduce obstacles in agricultural exports during several meetings on the sidelines of the G20 agricultural ministers meet in the Chinese city of Xian later this week.
Besides participating in the G20 ministerial meet, Buryaile is also expected to meet his Chinese counterpart Han Changfu, European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Phil Hogan, and representatives from Spain, Mexico and Brazil, among other countries.
He said Argentina will boost its agricultural exports to produce "more wheat, more maize and more meat with the economic measures taken by the government," while emphasizing the country's desire to bolster the presence of Argentine products in the market of the Asian giant.
China, second largest market for food exports from the South American country, is the main importer of Argentine meat, although even milk, fruit and juice from Argentina are also making their presence felt.
"We can increase exports of fresh fruits to this country, where presently we are facing some hindrances," said the Argentine Secretary of Agroindustrial Markets, Marisa Bircher.
Meanwhile, Buryaile said he is looking to increase policy coordination, reduce transaction costs, attract investments, as well as reach cooperation agreements for research in fishing, agricultural technology, biotechnology, seeds and biosafety.
He added Argentina and China share good political relations, which have been boosted post a May 19 meeting between the foreign ministers of both countries.
