According to the National Bureau of Statistics (Indec), industrial activity grew by 55.9% in April compared to the same month last year, and by only 0.3% compared to March. It should be noted that the month of year-on-year comparison was the moment of greatest closure of the economy due to the restrictions to mitigate the Covid-19, so the strong growth is not surprising. Meanwhile, construction activity increased by 321 % year-on-year in April, while it fell by 2.2 % compared to last March. Compared with April 2019, the last April without pandemic, industry showed increases in 10 of the 16 sectors. The largest increases were in Machinery and equipment (+41.6%); followed by Tobacco products (+42.1%). 38.4% of the businessmen consulted by the Indec considered that domestic demand will continue to increase until July, against 23.2% who foresee a decrease, while the remaining 38.4% do not foresee major changes.
