The National Govt. decided to extend the regulation that prohibits layoffs, which expires on January 29, and will also extend the mandatory payment of double severance pay for layoffs for the entire year 2021. In this way, private companies will not be able to dismiss employees without just cause or for reasons of force majeure or a decrease in the demand for work, as is in force since April 1, 2020. The measure has not yet been made official in the Official Gazette, but it will be published in the next few days.
The Argentine Industrial Union (UIA) considered that these measures "are detrimental to the necessary expansion of the workers' endowments." However, this rule does not apply to jobs created after the rule came into force, in April 2020. In addition, the trade unionist and deputy of the Frente de Todos, Hugo Yaski, praised the government's decision and he questioned the business sector for having an "antisocial point of view."
