The National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec) reported that the consumer price index rose 4% in December and thus accumulated an increase of 36.1% throughout 2020, which determined a decrease of 17.7 percentage points compared to 53.8% in 2019. In December, the item “Food and non-alcoholic beverages” was the one with the highest incidence with an increase of 4.4%. In this segment, the increases in meat stood out.
From the Ministry of Economy they highlighted that inflation of 4%, the highest in 2020, was explained "in part, due to seasonal factors." In the case of the increase in the price of meat, it was due to seasonal consumption and increased international prices that increase the cost of production.
