Industrial production in Argentina fell by 7.1% in August 2020 compared to the same month last year and at the same time it had a decrease of 0.9% compared to July, announced the INDEC national statistics bureau. Meanwhile, construction activity registered a drop of 17.7% year-on-year in August, and 1% compared to the previous month. Therefore, manufacturing activity accumulated a 12.5% decline between January and August, and the construction sector 31.8%, according to official data. The steepest year-on-year plunges were in the following sectors: transport equipment -42.5%; garments, leather and footwear -30.7%; precision engineering -29.3%; basic metal industries -25.2%; textiles -19.4% and vehicles and auto parts -17%. The only sectors registering growth were chemicals +10.4%; furniture +10.2%; machinery and plant +5.2% and tobacco +8.0%.
