The EU decision to suspend citrus exports from Argentina entered into force on 16 Aug. 2020 for the rest of this season, in accordance with what was decided by the EU’s health service and reported to the Argentine National Service for Food and Agriculture Health and Quality (Senasa). The decision was due to the presumed phytosanitary risk after the detection of some batches of lemons and oranges with the disease called black spot. Senasa expressed concern that this measure has been influenced by European citrus producers’ claims, who requested additional measures to the European Commission, as citrus imports were "sinking prices” on the European market.
